A permanent public artwork, Fruitful Branches is a three-part digital sculptural installation located along the path that crosses the parc des Gorilles. Natacha Clitandre created the sculptural and visual design of the work, while Salima Punjani designed the sound component. Inspired by the history of the site and the citizen mobilization linked to the park, the artwork gives a voice to the Friends involved in preserving the wasteland.

At both entrances to the park, interactive kiosks broadcast sounds and testimonials selected through a collaboration with the Friends of the parc des Gorilles. The sounds of sewing machines, trains, birdsong, and voices evoke the harmonious coexistence of the site's various functions over time. The forms of the tall sculptures were designed using the L-System, an algorithm that allows for the visual representation of plant growth. Similar to the park's trees, these sculptures reflect the diversity of the flora as well as the richness of the park's arboreal and industrial heritage.

The integration of a work of art into the parc des Gorilles is part of the transformation of this brownfield site into an urban park. The parc des Gorilles is part of the larger MIL Montréal project, specifically the redevelopment of the public space in the Marconi-Alexandra sector. The desire to create a park stemmed from a strong citizen mobilization, initiated in 2013, aimed at the redevelopment and revitalization of the site following the illegal felling of trees by the landowner. The name of the park, chosen by the Friends of the parc des Gorilles committee, reflects this struggle to preserve the land. It also refers to the wild, urban jungle-like appearance of the brownfield site after the railway was removed.

Œuvre d'art public permanente, Les embranchements fructueux est une installation sculpturale numérique en trois parties implantées le long du sentier qui traverse le parc des Gorilles. Natacha Clitandre réalise la conception sculpturale et lumineuse de l’œuvre tandis que Salima Punjani en signe la conception sonore. Inspirée de l’histoire du site et de la mobilisation citoyenne liée au parc, l’œuvre donne la parole aux AmiEs investi·es dans la sauvegarde de la friche.

Aux deux entrées du parc, des bornes interactives diffusent des sons et témoignages sélectionnés au terme d’une collaboration avec les AmiEs du parc. Les bruits de machines à coudre, du train, des chants d’oiseaux et des voix évoquent la coexistence harmonieuse des différentes fonctions du site au fil du temps. Les formes des sculptures hautes ont été conçues à partir du L-Système, un algorithme qui permet de représenter visuellement le processus de croissance des plantes. Semblables aux arbres du parc, ces sculptures témoignent de l’hétérogénéité de la flore tout autant que de la richesse du patrimoine arboricole et industriel du parc.

L’intégration d’une œuvre d’art dans le parc des Gorilles s’inscrit dans le contexte de la transformation de cette friche en parc urbain. Ce dernier fait partie du grand projet MIL Montréal, plus particulièrement de la requalification du domaine public du secteur Marconi-Alexandra. Le souhait de créer un parc vient d’une forte mobilisation citoyenne, initiée en 2013, visant la reconversion et le développement du site à la suite d’un abattage illégal d’arbres par le propriétaire. Le nom du lieu, choisi par le comité des AmiEs du parc des Gorilles, vient de cette lutte pour la préservation du terrain. Il fait aussi référence à l’aspect sauvage de la friche, semblable à une jungle urbaine, qui caractérisait le site après le retrait du chemin de fer.
