At the invitation of the Rencontres de la photographie en Gaspésie, I explored a non-urban setting, focusing on human impact along the shores of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. For this project, I examined how the local population is responding to the gradual changes taking place in the Gaspé region.

The first part, Littoral — mise en situation, was created in close collaboration with the residents of Paspébiac during an artist residency in 2019. During our walks, the participants became my temporary guides, moving with me along the boundary between sea and land as they shared their stories. They spoke of the changes resulting from human development, coastal erosion, and current climate upheavals, as perceived on an individual level. At the intersection of digital art, oral storytelling, and photographic documentary, Littoral — mise en situation combines an outdoor photo installation—which recreates a fragment of a 360˚ panorama of the Paspébiac shoreline—with snippets of the shared narratives.

Then, in 2020, I presented Littoral: a series of printed images accompanied by a video panorama. In it, I examine how human intervention alters shorelines in the short, medium, and long term—while also observing how the various forces at play there coexist. This iteration brings together photographic fragments captured at various locations along the linear fringe of Baie-des-Chaleurs (sea, geological strata, built environment) combined with written content.

Through these two complementary iterations, I address the artificial transformation of coastlines by presenting spatio-temporal fragments, synthesized through objective data and subjective impressions. I retrace a singular moment in a coastal environment, as well as my own experience of it and those shared with me. The work as a whole—in an experimental and documentary style—explores the various scales through which a maritime horizon can be interpreted.

À l'invitation des Rencontres de la photographie en Gaspésie, j'ai exploré un contexte non urbain en m’attardant à l'emprise anthropique des rives du Golfe du Saint-Laurent. Pour l'occasion, je me suis intéressée à la manière dont la population locale face aux changements progressifs du territoire gaspésien.

Le premier volet, Littoral — mise en situation, a été réalisé en collaboration étroite avec les résident·es de Paspébiac lors d’une résidence de création effectuée en 2019. Le temps d’une rencontre, les participant·es sont devenu·es mes guides temporaires, se déplaçant avec moi sur la ligne de contact entre mer et terre, au gré de leurs récits. Il·elles ont évoqué les changements résultant de l’aménagement humain, de l’érosion des côtes et des bouleversements climatiques actuels, tels que perçus à l’échelle individuelle. À la croisée de l’art numérique, de l’oralité et du documentaire photographique, Littoral — mise en situation combine une installation photo extérieure restituant un fragment d’une captation 360˚des rives de Paspébiac à des bribes des récits partagés.

Puis, en 2020, j'ai présenté Littoral, une série d'images imprimées complétée d'un panorama vidéo. J'y scrute la modification des berges par l’intervention humaine à court, moyen et long terme — en plus d’observer comment cohabitent les différentes forces qui s’y manifestent. Cette itération agence des fragments photos captés à divers emplacements de la frange linéaire de la Baie-des-Chaleurs (mer, strates géologiques, horizon construit) associés à des contenus écrits.

Avec ces deux itérations complémentaires, j'aborde l’artificialisation des côtes en en montrant des fragments spatio-temporels, synthétisés par des données objectives et des impressions subjectives. Je retrace un moment singulier d’un milieu côtier ainsi que l’expérience que j'en ai faite et celles qui m'ont été partagées. L'ensemble relate — sous un mode expérimental et documentaire — différentes échelles à partir desquelles il est possible de lire un horizon maritime.
